Florida has hit 90 + everyday and just getting dressed is a chore. The last thing I want to do is exercise. Here is my top 10 ways to workout into the heat.
10. Swimming - Go to the beach orlando a pool.
9. Walking – walk into the evening when it is cooler.
8. Dance! Turn on the radio and set a goal of 4 songs. It will lift your spirits.
7. Play games. Get the whole family into a softball or football game.
6. Bicycle. See your town. Riding will make seem cooler.
5. Skate. Just like cycling, skating at an indoor rink or on the street feels cooler because the speed creates a breeze.
4. Mow the lawn. It has to get done anyway, but it doesn’t count if you use a riding mower.
3. Garden. Bending and stretching keeps your body flexible and spreading soil and mulch builds muscle strength.
2. Sex. Yes, it is great exercise.
1. Shop! Get out to the mall and try on some of those smaller outfits. Before you start, take a couple laps around the mall to get your body revved up and increase your heart rate.

I’m on to week #2 back on the plan (the sequel) and I’m really, really having trouble making exercise a priority in my life. As I portion out the time segments of my day it is the last thing I want to do and it is the last thing on the list. So the obvious answer is MAKE IT A PRIORITY. I understand that. But even when I move it up to position #1 on my To Do list I still don’t do it.
I stumble home after working all day and there are dozens of things to do around the house — vaccuum up today’s dog hair, fold clothes, do laundry, dust, work more, maybe read a book and there’s always the outside chores. I am more active than I was before and while I know that counts for something, it certainly doesn’t do my heart any good like a cardio work out would.
Does that mean I’m doomed to a life of unhealthy living — the easy answer is yes. A woman’s body does a wonderful thing for her during her breeding years before menopause by beefing up estrogen levels that protect the heart to some degree from serious disease. At least that’s what doctors have told us about why more younger men are afflicted than women. Well, bad news comes along as you get older and that protection goes away. I understand, in my mind, that if you don’t get into healthy habits before the birthing clock runs out that you are more prone to develop heart disease and diabetes. Now I just have to make my mind understand that when I get home.
The Exercise Plan
The motivation to move is now a bigger deal for me than the healthy eating plan. I am discouraged with myself when I don’t do it and that anger internalized leads to, guess what, over eating. I am undisciplined in my work life, my love life or in caring for others, but I have let myself down terribly and that needs to change.
There is a treadmill in my house that has been far to lonely recently. Tonight I need to get on it and I need to start moving. I know it will make the small aches in my back and my neck feel better. I know for a fact that it will lead to other exercise and stretching which will make me feel darn near perfect. Tonight’s the night…it’s the battle of wills between me and my mind. I hope I win!
