Fat Rant: Video says all the right things about weight

Healthy Weight Loss Tips: Get member support, nutritionists' advice, the doctor's tips, results!

I can’t believe I’ve never seen Joy Nash’s Fat Rant until now.  This is the best explanation of how a fat person feels and acts, and she nails the issue of self-esteem.

All overweight people should be forced to watch this video until they get busy living. It is a common problem — and we’ve all done it — to make excuses for why you can’t do something because of weight. Got to love this!

Cultivating a Diet Buddy

A diet buddy can make the difference

A diet buddy can make the difference

I’m a terrible dater.  So I’m not surprised that over the years I’ve had trouble finding the right diet buddy because the process of finding a boyfriend is a lot like finding a diet buddy.  So no surprise I’ve met a lot of people but never found the perfect complement to help me with my meal plans.

A diet buddy — that person you’ll trust with your most intimate eating secrets — has to be strong and supportive but not too critical.  The codependent diet buddy is a nightmare. This is the girlfriend who hears about your bad day and will immediately join you in devouring a bag of Oreos.  She’s a great friend, but you’ll both be fat for life.

Beware of the Paris Hilton buddy.  She’s terminally thin and you think by having her support she’ll lead you to better eating habits by association.  My Paris Hilton buddies do keep me from eating sugary treats, but they like to party and socialize and often lead me to bars where we drink fattening drinks.

My personal favorite is the School Mom Buddy.  Here’s the person who always knows better than you.  She instructs and educates.  The problem with School Mom is that she never lets go. Even when you do well you get additional instruction.  I ultimately fell off the wagon with School Mom because I never felt worthy to succeed.

Sugar Daddy Diet Buddy.  Got to love the guy or girl who offers you rewards for losing weight. My Dad once offered me a trip to New York with a full wardrobe makeover.  I didn’t lose the weight but I felt good about the offer.

I haven’t found my match yet, but I believe I have determined the type of person who will be the perfect diet buddy and coach.  I’ve dubbed her “Best Friend” diet buddy.  This is the person who has some diet issues, but has apparently rises above those challenges most of the time. This is the person who can be brutally honest with you for your own good. This is someone who just cares — no rewards, no criticism, just encouragement.

After years and years of dieting, I know I did the best job of eating and exercising correctly when someone was watching.  Dieting alone just isn’t as rewarding as having someone, anyone, to recognize your progress.  So I’m out on the “diet buddy” circuit looking for my other half again.
